The Dog Days Are Over

Canada did a great job hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. Many residents and tourists enjoyed the festivities surrounding the Olympics and all the extra activities that came along with it. Many of these activities took place in Whistler, British Columbia; a beautiful place that held a horrible secret until discovered this past week.
Dog sledding has always been a big attraction in Whistler and with the overwhelming amount of visitors during the 2010 Olympics more dogs were brought in to meet the demand of rides. When all the medals were won and everyone went home a mass slaughter took place last April with over 70 dogs being killed.

A report says that an employee was told to kill 100 dogs out of the 300. They "were uneconomic to keep after the Games were over the the tourists went home". A veterinarian was contacted for assistance but refused to help euthanize healthy dogs. They said that they attempted to adopt the dogs out but had minimal success. Healthy dogs who the employees had named, bred and loved were shot and buried.

The BC SPCA discovered these horrible actions that the company had taken and filed an investigation which is still on going.
